Autumn/winter 2011/12 Trends
Sitting at my laptop, trying to think of a good way to start this blog off was proving to be tiring so I decided to choose the simple solution and start with the basics, a summary of the coming season's trends.
1. Knitwear
Whether it’s relaxed shapes, chunky weaves or fuzzy textures, the cosy (and ever so practical) sweater is in. And why not give this style a modern twist by pairing a sweater with a maxi dress for the evening.
2. The 'it' Coats
This season there will be more than simply the one 'it' coat but there are three! Firstly, the mannish coat. This has a looser fit and a minimalist line, as well as being made of men's tailoring fabrics such as pinstripe and grey flannel. The Blanket coat with its blanket like material and fit. And finally, the Maxi coat. This coat will graze the floor but there are also more streamlined styles as well.
3. Pleats
This style has already been present in many spring/summer collections and will continue to be so in the coming season.
4. The Midi Skirt and the Maxi Skirt
This season you can continue your maxi dress style with the maxi skirt; this seasons variation. But if you feel the floor grazing skirt isn't your thing then why not try the new midi skirt? Whether you try it with a turtle-neck jumper tucked in or with a silk blouse, this is a trend you can certainly make your own.
5. Blue, Reds and Yellow
This autumn/winter whether you like cobalt blue or navy, Burgundy or yellow, there is a colour trend for everyone. The block colour trend will continue with the traditional autumny tones as well as with the more eccentric colours of seasons past.
6. Wool, suede, snakeskin and fur
This trend has something for everyone. Whether it's a simple pair of suede boots or an eccentric fur coat, whatever your style you'll find it here.
Of course, there are many more trends this season -sheer, leather, the jumpsuit, harnesses and prints to say the least - and in time I shall cover them all but for now, here are the need-to-know trends (in my opinion anyway) which will hopefully help any fashion novice come to terms with the coming months fashions. Enjoy!
